Civana House - Sanctuary

SPACE DESIGN

Our spaces are a direct reflection of our lives. Space is a metaphor, it is a powerful tool we can play with and create from. My design process is rooted in the philosophies of traditional Feng Shui. I completed an intensive certification program in 2018-2019 studying under an array of Feng Shui masters. Feng Shui looks to nature to inform design. It is both complex and simple, intuitive and scientific. A beautiful 6,000 yr old practice that I hope to utilize and share as much as possible.

Civana House - Sanctuary

Civana House - Sanctuary

Civana House is a historic mansion on Alamo Square, built in 1910 by the builder of the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s a community gathering place for for dinners, workshops, and off-sites. The goal for transforming the top floor was to create a multi use sanctuary for residents and guests and to be able to host wellness events such as meditation, yoga, sound healings, spa nights as well as be useable for a calm work space, to hold meetings or creative brainstorm sessions.

Sacbe Camp 2019

Sacbe Camp 2019

In the design of Sacbe camp, sustainability and flexibility was top of mind. The space was designed to invoke deep healing, community, comfort, and femininity. The need for flexibility was to be able to transform the communal space multiple times a day between various event needs. From meditation, to dancing, to hosting talks and then being able to host 3 meals. Hemp and bamboo was used in all the textiles, the pillows were hand dyed and brought a psychedelic feminine feels. We made a 3 year commitment to the re-use of all materials, and a promise of reducing overall waste and footprint on playa.
